Un-website.

Posted on: June 4, 2009

BooneOakley also launched a new site this week that’s causing some buzz as its completely in YouTube.

They utilize YouTube’s ability to have clickable portions within videos to create the buttons that take you to different “pages”. Very much like Modernista’s unwebsite (that Skittles later copied) and in keeping with their agency description “BooneOakley is a full-service, out of the box ad agency.”

Too good not to share – via Renegade Agency Confessional

I can’t remember what life was like before YouTube.

Frank.

Posted on: May 17, 2009

Frank Duffel is a guy I could see my dad being buddies with – a bit of a hard ass but simple and straight forward. While he puts the “no” in innovation, he somehow ended up with a Facebook page, a youtube series and his own website, but my guess is that the overly ambitious June is responsible for that (see episodes 4 and 5).

Mr.Duffel is the President of The Post Shredded Wheat Co. where they’ve done nothing to change the cereal since 1892. After two two huge achievements, adding milk to cereal and make Post Shredded Wheat spoon size, Post Shredded Wheat has not changed a thing. To fully understand Frank check out his speech on Progress…good stuff.

Well done Ogilvy! It’s incredibly entertaining, sociable and still delivers a powerful message. Heck, I bought a box at the grocery store today and I don’t even eat cereal.

This is taking billboards to a whole new level.

Audi told BMW it was their move and Santa Monica BMW took that challenge with a bigger more badass billboard across the street. Genius!

Juggernaut Advertising is the agency responsible for the bold move from Santa Monica BMW.

I applaud them for not only being creative and snarky but aware of the original Audi billboard and being able to sell this to their client.

Well played, Juggernaut well played.

Check out a video of the process below

Dreaming.

Posted on: April 14, 2009

On the new bsuiness squad I think a lot about my dream accounts to land. Some are on the list because I absolutely love the products, some are on there because I geniuely think they’d be fun, some purely for the challenge, some because I think there are so many creative and innovative ways to advertise.

1. The cool start up no one even knows about yet.

2. Lucky Charms

3. GUESS footwear

4. The Ivy Hotel

5. The Raiders

6. Islands

7. Puma

8. Hardrock

9. Charlotte Russe

10. United states Lawn Bowls Association

Who are your dream clients?

Busy.

Slammed. Overwhelmed. Overworked.

Take your pick. I know that’s no excuse to abandon my blog, but I’ve barely seen my apartment let alone my friends. I just haven’t had time to post anything new.

I do have a ridicuoulous back log of half thought out posts waiting in my drafts folder, so when I have time I’ll be back in a flurry!

My boss promises next week will be better….we’ll see…

Super.

It’s Super Bowl Sunday! WOOOHOOO.

For those of us with teams not in the super bowl (it was rebuilding year for the Raiders) who have a love for advertising, its really all about the commercials. According to the twitterverse NBC sold 69 30 spots this year, raking in $206 million. Which agencies sold a superbowl spot this year?

Thankfully some people have put together some tools to evaluate the ads in real time. So now I can go to work tomorrow armed with comments, opinions and insights on all the spots. You can tweet using #sbads09 or just read twitter comments here. Or participate on SuperAdSunday which comes with a comprehensive guide to calling fouls.

My personal favorite of the fouls is the Incomplete T ‘ N ‘ A.

Hell.

Posted on: January 13, 2009

I’m having a hell week.

–  1 RFP due Friday

–  1 New RFP to start

–  2 Full Web evaluations due Thursday (and I just found out about them today)

–  All media invoices due to clients by the 15th (that I haven’t had time to touch)

– PURLs training to be done by Thursday

–  Plus all my other usual job tasks I have to do

If you are unfamiliar of what a Hell Week is at my agency check it.

Thankfully, I’m taking next week off for a few days in Vegas and some much needed non-work time.

Tis the season for agency’s to create useless sites, games and videos. Here are a collection of my favorites thus far this season.

Apptera created their Holiday Card 08 which ties in mobile with the online. Annoyingly you have to go online, then receive a call, go back online after receiving a text, then have to call in again. At least they can track when each person drops out of the process and build a database and demonstrates their mobile capabilities.

First Round Capital rallied the companies they fund to create their Holiday Video. Hilarious to watch these folks dance around…my personal favorite is at 0:55 two guys from Gnip who look terribly awkward.

R/GA created a site where you can Tattoo Santa or Tat the Fat. Something about giving Santa a tramp stamp just doesn’t seem right to me…

Wagner Design Associates created a pretty basic online card that’s simple but cool.

You can play virtual White Elephant with Preston Kelly. I opened a can of peaches but stole a Wii Fit, then lost my Wii and stole a bottle of Grey Goose. Gifts will be awarded according to what each player possesses when the game ends at approximately 12:00 pm Central Standard Time on Friday, December 19th, 2008

AKQA created one of my favorite videos this holiday season…musical microwaves with a holiday beat

Colle+McVoy created a 3D site called SnowdIn, I’ve sent away for my 3D glasses but have not yet received them.

You can make a wish with  in their Snowflake Wonderland (site takes a lot of memory to run, so it might slow you down) and check out what others have wished for!
