The Dollar ReDe$ign Project is asking folks to redesign US currency in an effort to encourage the US government to redesign the US currency and stimulate the economy. The Project was put together by Richard Smith.

While I do not understand how pretty new money will boost the economy, I enjoy checking out the submissions sent in. All of the designs are available for viewing here, you can read more about the project here and here.

These are my favorite submissions

I was a Journalism major in college and while I was not of the uber-Journalism persuasion, I’ve always had a healthy respect for Jouranlists. Growing up I was always a news junkie; the world has always fascinated me, from politics and religion to trends and tragedy. While I didn’t pursue a career in Journalism, it still holds a special place in my heart.

It pains me to see the state of broadcast Journalism today.

Today as Iran erupts in protests over the disputed legitimacy of their recent Presidential election, Twitter streams are full of news with pictures and videos most of which  fails to get covered both nationally (CNN’s coverage has been lacking) and locally.

Very rarely do I watch local news, but I figure its 10pm and I could very easily tune in to the local news to catch up on Iran.  So while a very important Middle Eastern nation is going through a democratic uprising what do all three local news channels lead with for the 10pm news? A local middle school’s trip to China. Second story?  High school prank gone bad. I want the f’ing news, not my community weekly newspaper.

For news done right check out the #iranelection twitter stream, Time and the BBC.

UPDATE: I attempted to watch the local morning news – one station spent 30 seconds mentioning that the happenings in the rest of the world, using the a graphic of an Iranian woman putting her ballot in the box and no mention of the protests. The story followed an update about the Turkey stampede at the Del Mar Fair and was followed by a story about Kung Fu Panada being played at Viejas outdoor theatre tonight.

I give up. Back to the interwebs I go for my news.

Apparently the world goes on outside the office doors even when I’m too busy with actual work to pay attention…strange. Due to my extemly busy work week and vacation next week (wooohooo Vegas) I’ve put together the highlights of the past week or so in the marketing, social media, web world. I also made you this awesome piece of tiny ninja theater via. You’re welcome.

Life outside my office

There was the awesomeness of Twitter as displayed by David Armano raising over $15K in 24hours to help a family in need. It was crazy to see how fast this post was RT through my Twitter network and made such a big difference. Social media can do good things!

Burger King created my favorite FB app ever,  Whopper Sacrafice, which sacraficed over 230,000 friends before Facebook killed it off over “privacy concerns”. Do I even have to tell you how much I love it? I like to keep my friend list to around 100…I can always delete a few FB friends. But not you of course…Good recap on the app here

A whole new bunch of ad people lost their jobs and the agencies handled it poorly. Ugh. If you love the constant depression and sadness for your friends in the ad world you can follow AdAgencyLayoffs

A happy plane crash in the Hudson marked the 4th time in six months, I heard about it the big news story and saw pictures on Twitter before any news outlet knew what was going on.

Circuit City is almost dead.

Condoms have some great sex all on thier own.

I don’t even know what to say about this.

During my 6 monhts studying in London I did not become a fan of Wispa…but I’m loving the complete randomness of what they’ve put together.

You can also check out ForTheLoveofWispa.

Back from a busy week and a vacation…apparently I missed a lot!

First there was the Motrin Mom scandal in Twitterville summarized very nicely by AdAge

Jerry Yang left Yahoo…do you think he actually used rpoper grammer on this employee memo? (Hint: No)

Crazy debates happening regarding the automotive industry’s request for money from the government. Congress went crazy today….if they fail there will be a lot of hurting agencies.

Wondering who is getting laid off and what companies are failing? Check out which is almost as much fun as the Technocrati dead pool of startups.

I’ve recently learned to love Hulu and Yidio…Hulu now becoming big competion to YouTube.

No more ValleyWag?? Ugh its not like PerezHilton is going to start covering the Silicon Valley.

Fuck even Turkeys have social media down…why the hell can’t I convince clients!

Ugh back to catching up at work and sorting through, emails, voicemails and job tickets.
